Buttes New British Cemetery - from the 5th Division Memorial on the Butte

The top of the Butte near the 5th Division Memorial provides a spectacular view of the cemetery and Polygon Wood even on a very overcast day like this. The Buttes New British Cemetery, like all CWG cemeteries in Europe has meticulously maintained lawns and gardens. It is one of the most beautiful cemeteries, with the greens, reds and whites of the cemetery in sharp contrast to the dark colours of the forest.

The Butte is level on top and immaculately groomed. It was reshaped after the War with soil taken from behind it. This has created a pond or swamp which has been left to grow wild.
