Verdun France - Douaumont Village
This is all that remains of Douaumont Village. The houses were pulverised to dust and there are now only plaques to show where the houses once were. This is one of the few small flat areas on the battlefield. There was an average of more than 2 shells per square metre expended on the relatively small area of the battlefield. Look into the trees and see that the ground consists of mounds and craters.
