Ieper (Ypres) Belgium - Hill 60 Entrance
There is a small carpark at the entrance and a memorial to the Australian miners that lost their lives here. This hill was considered to be important and was constantly fought over. The miners had the envidious job of digging under the hill and laying explosive charges. Judging by the large craters they must have been successful on a few occassions.
The memorial has a few bullet holes in it that were made during the Second World War. |
